It saddens me deeply to see other people here in the US take one look at what the media is saying and arrive at dangerously wrong conclusions regarding the entire situation going on in Gaza at the moment. They then decide to jump on the bandwagon screaming for fairness and for human rights, for political correctness...
My God.
Do you know who you are talking to? A country built by holocaust survivors and refugees... a country that took in thousands upon thousands of Arabs when none of their Arab 'brothers' would. A country that gives these people civil rights that their OWN countries do not give them!
This is your alleged apartheid state? I suggest you invest in a dictionary.
Let me see....a country whose army goes forth and actually takes time to drop leaflets in Arabic for the citizens of Gaza with information regarding upcoming targets, an army that calls thousands of phone numbers to tell the residents of Gaza in their own native tongue EXACT COORDINATES of where they will be bombing in order to ensure that they can escape in time.... the same army who supplies humanitarian aid to the civilians who are caught in this mess.... this is the big bad oppressive army you speak of? These are the merciless creatures you are protesting against? Interesting.
I humbly ask you, our critics....where were you when Sderot, a city in Southern Israel was bombed....over, and over, and over and over for a period of two years? Israel left Gaza because 'peace' was promised if we did. Yet during our supposed cease fire, when the rockets were flying into Israel and our children were screaming.... Where was the media then? Where were the masses of people screaming at the top of their lungs for fairness then? What is it? Are they not as interesting? Is it not as important when an 8 year old Israeli girl gets a rocket launched through her window at night? How would you feel if that was your baby? Would it be important then? Here's a radical thought, would you want YOUR country's army to go stop the people bombing your child's room?
This is called basic logic.
And I look around and wonder have people lost their minds?
The press does not surprise me, nor is it new. But if I hear one more person repeating this complete bile about Israel being an oppressive Zionist state persecuting Palestinians.... I'm not sure if I will laugh or cry.
Because you see, the information is out there. Yes, so is the propaganda calling us liars. But the truth is out there. The videos of the bombings Sderot has dealt with for ages. The information in this article which shows the lengths the IDF forces are going to to protect civilian lives.... it's out there. (Please see video below.)
Only, it's not as interesting a news piece is it?
On a side note, here's a question... how long do you think the US would put up with missiles coming in from Mexico?
Take a guess. Go for it. How long would you put up with rockets in your houses and schools before you would want your government to react?
I would suggest that if any of your friends think that Israel should back down that you ask them that question. Let's talk about it. What's a fair time to wait?
Show me one person who would suggest a period of a year or two as a fair amount of waiting time. You know, just to be sure... and politically correct and all that stuff.
And yet, the Israelis do. Then they warn that they are going in. And they go in. And as they do they actually send leaflets and CALL people on the OTHER side to tell them WHEN they will be attacking!
And when they DO go in, THEY BRING HUMANITARIAN AID!!!
WHAT OTHER COUNTRY IN THE WORLD DOES THIS?
It is ridiculous. If that is not politically correct to the point of suicide I do not know what is.
You call this oppressive? Really?
You've been buying the propaganda. You've been watching the horrific living conditions in Gaza.... but have you wondered why an area that receives millions if not billions in aid from Western countries lives in such poverty? Why they cannot seem to put together a functioning government, judicial or civil system? It is because they have no desire to!
You've seen children screaming. But have you seen the eight year old boys proudly waving machine guns in the air and pointing them at our soldiers? And if you did see them, did you wonder why? Why a child would do this?
He has been taught to. Because ever since he was watching his version of the muppet show as a toddler, he was told that he would be a martyr if he grew up and killed Jews. But hey, why stop there? Americans will work too! So the boy grows up. The hate corrodes the innocence. Potential turns to evil and evil sends its rockets into the yards of my friends. Of my family. Of people your age. Like you and your boyfriend, and your wife, and your baby.
This is what we are up against. What Israel has NOT been responding to for a very long time... and now that we defend ourselves... you tell us not to. You tell us we are unreasonable.
The entire situation is heartbreaking. And the innocent lives that are lost are a waste and a tragedy. It cannot be denied that it is necessary for Israel to be there. We will not apologize for protecting our right to live in our own land and in our own homes. Unfortunately uprooting evil is time-consuming and nearly impossible...
But we try.
And we hope.
And through it all, through the best and cleanest of intentions, Israel deals with this soot, with this manure thrown on her face, compliments of the media and others who think they understand something they do not. Israel takes the derogatory comments and we walk on. Like my own great-grandparents who were murdered and shoved in ovens in the Holocaust...like my grandparents, the early settlers who built the country amidst every opposition... like my parents who served in the 1967 and 1973 wars... We will take what you throw on us, wipe it off and keep on walking... because if we don't... we die.
And that would just make way too many people much too happy.
